About

Andrew Freidin is an Australian artist resident in Oxford.

Largely self-taught, I work in a variety of media and focus predominantly on expressive figuration and portraiture.  My work has been exhibited in London and Australia, collected privately and publicly, and I have also undertaken numerous commissions.

Throughout my life I have concurrently practiced as a musician, and music inspires several of my sculptural works. My artistic influences are many but I work with certain aims consistently in mind: convincing realism, truth to human nature through study of gesture and facial expression and more abstract concerns of balance, grace and beauty.

The disadvantages of being self-taught have been productively offset by an omnivorous curiosity, leading me to study various media and make works in pencil, charcoal,  conte, brush and ink, oils, pastels and Xrays as well as sculptures in wax, clay, bronze, wood and marble.
